Coming in March

March is going to be Animation month. Golf Thewlis is on hand to steer us through some great examples of animation. We’re going to look at the process of making animated GIFs and doing some simple claymation.

We’ve also got a report from Ben in San Francisco as he attends the Disposable Film Festival who are holding a special tribute to Jim & Heinz.

Watch out for more great enteries from Blunt Productions.

Applying the three act structure.

So we’ve talked about the three act structure, now we’re going to apply it. So I picked out two ideas that I’m going to try to apply the three structure too: a zombie film with a group of people stuck in an office toilet and a story set around a darts team. I haven’t planned out anything to do with these ideas so whatever I come up with now might not stretch long enough to fit within the three act structure. We’ll see how it goes.

ZOMBIE FILM
My initial idea for this zombie movie is a stupid take on ‘Night of the Living Dead’. Using the template of having a group of people trapped in a building having to fight off a group of marauding zombies I want to reduce it right down to an office toilet. I’m letting you know right now that I’m unsure whether this’ll stretch for a whole 90 minutes. Let’s see.

Film Pick

I know this is a movie that somebody has ripped and posted but I absolutly love Jan Svankmajer animations. This is just a brilliant example of his work. What could be better than watching lots of claymation footballers carve each other up in all different ways? Death by toy train anybody? I’ve got my own ideas but I’d like somebody else to write in and tell  me what they think it all means.

Good sites for free Sound Effects

Stonewashed: Featuring a great range of different sound effects plus some music loops too.

Sound Dogs: A nice mixture of all kinds of sound effects.

Find Sounds: Type in what you’re looking for and maybe it’s here. Sometimes it’s a challenge to get the right phrasing for the sound effect you want.

We also have been adding sound effects on a weekly basis to our Blunt Sound Effects page.

Jim and Heinz: Medecine part 2: London

The two find themselves in London and between discussing Rod Stewart and how to become a Sushi chef they do a little sightseeing- with catastrophic effects.

Jim and Heinz: Medecine part 1

Heinz is ill, and sends Jim to get some medecine for him. Sounds like an easy enough job, right? But Jim has other plans that may end up in the destruction of a WW2 air defence bunker.

Night of the Living Dead: Three Act Structure.

As I’m writing a zombie film I thought it would be interesting to see how well ‘Night of the Living Dead’ fits into the Three Act Structure.

Act 1: SET UP
Barbara and her brother are attacked by a zombie whilst visiting their mother’s grave. This is the Inciting incident that propels Barbara into a nightmare situation: the dead have risen! Barbara’s brother is killed by the zombie but she escapes and runs to a nearby farm house where she meets Ben.

Act 2: CONFRONTATION

Act 3: RESOLUTION

Post to be completed.
